Irony: Its Delicious

Hahahaha! Bush is a monkey! Its SOOOOO funny!

obama-monkey
That’s completly inappropriate. And racist. I think we should have this cartoonist fired. Then we can truly live in a society free of speech.

Calling Bush a monkey is insulting to our closest animal cousins!
Look a little closer, one is making fun of a single person, a evil lunatic who wasn’t qualified to sniff my dirty socks the other one makes fun of a whole race of people see thats different.(one has a recognizable face the other a “icon” symbolizing a group ie blacks) Anyway they have the right to call it what it is “racist”.Whereas the one above is satire.Unless of course the monkey is not meant to be Obama and just the authors of the bill? The 1st bill during Bush but it is unclear,(when did it appear?)The paper that ran it should be boycotted if recent.
But I agree with free speech and freedom to assemble and freedom to be gay and get married and freedom for a women to expose her breast in public and freedom in general.
Oh yeah and freedom to rent your basement!

Further note: Robert Murdoch publicly apologized for that cartoon today.

I also wanted to add that they kill the monkey, lots of implications there. Monkey’s where used as derogatory symbols of blacks back in our dark ages(and still are apparently) to denote inferiority, you know “less evolved”.
The second one comes close to qualifying as a hate message.Which isn’t as protected in our legal system. Its pretty ugly.
Where did you find it. Local Utah or national?

I found it on the New Yorker’s website-that’s the paper where it was first printed. I do see your point about it being construed as racist, but the cartoon is not referring to Obama as a monkey. Its referring to the people who drafted the stimulus bill, i.e. congress.

I heard all about that whole New-Yorker scandal, but I never saw the cartoon. When I read that, I didn’t think it had anything to do with racism. I call people “dumb as chimps” all the time (whites, blacks, asians hispanics…dumb-assery is equal opportunity, and so am I). I just assumed they were calling the authors of the bill, “dumb as chimps.” I didn’t get any racial connotation from that. I didn’t even realize it was the one in the New-Yorker until you just said it. I think there are a lot of overly sensitive people out there.

…I also pick my nose and pull the toilet paper from the bottom of the roll, so consider your source, I guess.
