Language Funnies

Last night I watched the movie “Knocked Up”. I love this movie. I’ve probably watched at least 5 times in the last three months. Its hilarious. Right before I started “Knocked Up” Dan was watching a movie called “The Punisher”. I told him it had way too much bad language in it and wish he’d turn it off. Huh. A double standard I smell.

“Knocked Up” has a ton of bad  language in it. An obscene amount really. I’d never let my kids watch it for sure. So why could I stomach the profanity in the funny movie and not in the action flick? Well, there it is right there…”Knocked Up” is funny.

I think its comes to this-I can lower my standards quite a bit if the movie or show promises to make me laugh (see “Always Sunny in Philadelphia”). I’m not as keen to do so when the movie is all about violence and action, or drama, or anything that doesn’t make me laugh.

I don’t know why this occurrs. Its silly, really. I should just set a standard and stick with it…but there’s such a shortage of truly funny movies out there that I hate to sacrifice a good one at the expense of prudish-ness.

Not all profane comedies strike my interest. I just watched “Burn After Reading”. Stupidest crap ever. And I love the Coen brothers. That movie stunk like Indi’s fresh poopies. So to really endure lots o’ bad language the movie, at least for me, has to balance itself out with a good comedic payoff.

So, not like any of this matters….was just wondering of any of you out there have the same sordid tastes…if you dare admit it.

For the record Punisher is probably one of the worst movies Ive ever seen. I only left it on for its comedic value as a total fail.

Whatever dude – Punisher is awesome! So awesome that he RUNS EVERYWHERE! Need to get across the city in a jiffy? Punisher RUNS! Need to chase down some bad guys? Punisher RUNS!

The guy should start doing marathons because he loves running so much he never even bothered to buy a car.

Oh and the part where the missile hits the guy jumping across the building? Priceless.

Yes. If it’s truly funny I will endure a lot of crap. By the way…I loved Burn After Reading. Punk. :)

…for the record, I also think Knocked Up is one of the funniest movies of the last decade.
