The Academy A-wards
This weekend marked a few momentous happenings in the the glitz and glamor of the Hollywood world. Another Paris Hilton movie grossed less than the star’s car is worth…while that might seem like a large sum to most, rest assured her Escalade is only a show-room prototype. Also, we heralded the celluloid circus known as “The Oscars” (moment of reverenced silence, please). This annual gathering of America’s royalty proved to be a bit of a let down this year, only because people actually behaved themselves-most boring-and Micheal Moore did’nt have the chance to “expound” on his political views. What a let down.
One bright spot in a rather dull evening; “No County For Old Men” winning Best Picture. I know, I know. The academy actually chose a good, watchable movie for this yearly honor. At the risk of getting stoned (the bad way I mean) I have to say that last year’s “Departed” snatch up was a big let down. Martin Scorsese is a genius of a director but I really felt like this movie was a rather half *edit-puppied* attempt at his usual fare of pretty good stuff. C’mon-we all knew exactly what was going to happen in the end and how the plot would find itself there. Boring.
But I digress. “No Men for Old…” whatever its called was the best thing to come out of movie making in the last year at least if not the last few years. The script, the acting, the setting-all amazingly executed. Its about time the Coen brothers received a little praise…did anyone really watch “Fargo”? *note-according to the box office totals I just looked up…a lot of people saw that movie. I stand corrected.
So, like the morning after…something big and fun…the Oscars have come and gone and we now wait to see what our friends out west will come up with in the year to come. I’m seeing something big and scary hitting the earth…possibly Michael Bay.

The Departed was still a great movie

Nice insight. I did like the departed, but I completely agree that it’s win last year was a “make up call” for the several times previous that Scorsese should have won.
Overall I was pleased with the results last night. Day-Lewis, Bardem, and No Country’s wins were particularly pleasing.

Didn’t catch the oscars I was on sentry duty had to chase off a couple coyotes and a fox, plus I’m to low on the peckin order and my spot to watch was way back in the flock and the booby tube was like so small it wasn’t quackin worth it. But how was my duck John Stewart any comments on his job as mc. A real revolutionary. Hes a real quackup! Flappin off
ps: Fargo was quackin great, Cohen brothers good, but Raisin Arizona is tops in all around entertainment or maybe O brother. have you seen Blood simple? or the Man Who wasn;t there ? to name a few more bloggin possibilities
