Sean Penn: Gay Face?
I had an odd thought…about once a minute to be excact. But this particular one has gestated just enough in my brain to become a blog post. Work with me here for just a sec:
Many people are comparing the current campaign for homosexual marriage to the Civil Rights Movement of the sixties. Ok. Fine. But if we’re going to take this all the way…there needs to be some cogruity checks.
For instance, the movie “Milk” is being heralded as a big pin-up for ‘gay rights’. So…that would make Harvey Milk equvalent to say…Martin Luther King? Ok. But Sean Penn, the actor playing Milk, is not gay. He’s married (or was at least) to Robin Penn Wright. A girl.
So if this whole thing really is comparable to the Civil Rights Movement, wouldn’t the actor playing this powerful gay rights activist have to be gay? It would be like having John C. Reilly playing Martin Luther King…in black-face.
My question is…is there such a thing as “gay face”? I would think such a thing in our modern day society of sensitivity would be frowned upon. But if not, what’s Penn, an obviously straight man, doing in a movie about gay rights? Its a travesty to the whole movement. I say at least.

Huh, what the, are you sniffing some high grade glue,
you make a big leap from a real person and a actor.
Martin Luther King was portrayed by actors also and some even had sympathies toward the movment.
Penn played a iconic member of the Gay rights movement and suports their equal rights as any freedom loving duck should. But to say you have to be gay to play a gay just because that person was a spokesperson??
Does that mean you must have been a cop to act a cop, be a mobster to act a mobster, what about the guy who played Jesus in the passion he probably wasn’t the true messiah?(that would Mel).
(besides many people that fought for civil rights were not black.)
Or are you just expressing a deeper ironic humor I’m missing?

I thought you would be pleased to know that the writer for Milk is truly gay!
Not only that but a former Mormon from Texas!
Did you see Shawn win his Oscar tonight. He’s the man, maybe president someday??
Did you also see Robert Downy JR get nominated for playing a black dude! Maybe you could someday play Liberace!
